Julia Cook Comes to Pine Glen

Pine Glen was so fortunate to meet Julia Cook this week!  Julia Cook has written numerous children's books that deal with social and emotional concepts.  They are fun to read, promote great conversation and teach an important lesson at the same time. In the morning grades 3, 4 & 5 attended an assembly where Julia read some books and talked to us about some of the concepts from her books.   In the afternoon we got a chance to sit down with Julia and discuss the writing process, how a book goes from an idea to a published book, and ask her questions!  The students had many wonderful questions and in the end she took out her Teacup Chihuahua for us to look at. She even dressed her up in sunglasses and sombrero.   One lucky student, Brooke, even got to hold her!  If you are interested in purchasing any of her books a form was sent home and is due back by May 1. There is a book for everyone on her list!  She even has a cute necklace for sale.  Jada was the lucky one chosen to help promote just how cute it is.    Thank you to Mrs. Zanotti for organizing this wonderful event!

Weather & Climate Project

As our final project for our Weather & Climate Unit every student worked in a group to create a Google Slide Presentation.  They had to pretend their family was moving to another city and needed to tell their family what the weather and climate would be like, how they should be prepared for natural disasters, and the differences in the climate from here in Burlington.  Students used data books, science books, and information they saw online to help them complete the project.  They presented their Google Slide presentation to the class so we all learned a little about the different weather and climate patterns around the United States.  Everyone did an amazing job researching, writing, and creating their presentation.  You can access your child's Google Presentation by going to their Google Drive.  I'm sure they can tell you all about the how they worked through this project!

Comfy & Cozy

We loved getting comfy and cozy after recess today.  Everyone got some time to just relax, read, listen to music, play a game on our ipad or shut our eyes for a bit.  It was a great class reward right before MCAS!  Keep up the fantastic work.
